Flights from Winnipeg to Beijing and Shanghai, China just experienced a 35-40% price drop on United and Air Canada. I believe these are the cheapest fares to China that Winnipeg has ever had.
Shanghai ($746) looks to be slightly cheaper than Beijing ($771). The cheap fares to China look to be available on a large variety of dates between September 2013 and March 2014.
I've found that the easiest way to explore these fares is to try a flexible date search on Kayak. Here's an example for late October, early November...

Look for the flights on United with 1 stop each way in Chicago. The total travel time should be around 18-19 hours each way.

Air Canada has also dropped their fares, down into the low $900s. They have 1 stop each way in Vancouver.
